Interview

1. Please provide a brief outline of your training and scientific activity.

I have been a Professor of Spanish Literature at the University of Vigo, Spain, for more than 35 years. My research has focused particularly on the work of Francisco de Quevedo and, more broadly, on the poetry of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. In recent years, I have worked on printed editions of Quevedo’s works, particularly on their Italian and French translations, and I have participated in the major international conferences held worldwide on these subjects.

2. Please state your reasons for choosing Venice and the Department for your research and teaching stay.

The main reason is that a significant number of the Italian translations of Quevedo’s works were produced in Venice, either by translators from Venice or the surrounding areas, and published by editors and printers based in the city. My particular interest lies in consulting the copies held in libraries in Venice itself, as well as in nearby locations such as Bassano, Vicenza, Padua, and Trieste.

The Department of Linguistics and Comparative Cultural Studies includes among its members some of the leading scholars of seventeenth-century Spanish literature and, in the case of Professor Sáez, a renowned specialist in Quevedo’s work.

3. Have you ever had a research collaboration with the teaching staff of the Department of Linguistics and Comparative Cultural Studies in the past?

I have previously undertaken a research stay at the Department, and I collaborate very closely with Professor Sáez on research into the work and figure of Quevedo. We have participated in many conferences together and regularly meet to organize events presenting our most recent research.
