Interview

1. Please provide a brief outline of your training and scientific activity.

Silviano Carrasco is a Lecturer (Profesor Contratado Doctor) in French Studies at the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM). He obtained his PhD in 2017, receiving the Extraordinary Doctoral Award, from the Department of French Studies at the same university, with a dissertation entitled Crime Narratives from Word to Image: French Novels, Film and Video Games from the 20th to the 21st Century. He has held positions as an Assistant Lecturer and Lecturer at the University of Extremadura (UEX) and currently holds a Lecturer position at UCM. He has taught a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses related to French language and literature. His research focuses on the intersection of fiction, both digital and print, with other forms of popular narrative, such as video games, comics and cinema, as well as on crime fiction and contemporary French literature. He has undertaken international research stays in France (Université Paris VII and Université Paris VIII) and Denmark (IT University of Copenhagen) and has published nationally and internationally in his fields of research.

 2. Please state your reasons for choosing Venice and the Department for your research and teaching stay.

During my research stay at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, I explored the possibility of developing a scholarly publication on the representation of realism in Donna Leon’s detective novels set in Venice. The research focused on the relationship between the literary portrayal of the city and its urban and social realities. Although this line of inquiry offered interesting perspectives, the findings ultimately did not provide a sufficiently solid basis for a standalone academic publication. Nevertheless, the experience contributed to a broader reflection on the literary representation of Venice.

3. Have you ever had a research collaboration with the teaching staff of Department of Linguistics and Comparative Cultural Studies in the past?

No.
