The International Conference “Public and private spaces in Tokyo and Venice: The role of local communities and values” springs out from past research experiences and collaborations between Ca’ Foscari and the Hosei University Research Center for Edo-Tokyo Studies (EToS). The central thread of the conference will be how Edo-Tokyo and Venice have fashioned public and private spaces in their urban environments as a key feature of the organization of inhabited space and social life, as well as the role of the two realms in the community’s organization, activities, and material and spiritual life, and as a stimulus for identity and belonging dynamics.

  • The Hosei University Research Center for Edo-Tokyo; 
  • The Consulate General of Japan in Milan.
