iNEST | Cultures in Motion: Communities in Dialogue

Corte delle Dolomiti, Borca di Cadore

Not in a closed hall, but along a path, walking together. This is the vision behind the conference "Culture in Movimento: comunità che dialogano" (Cultures in Motion: Communities in Dialogue). On Saturday, March 21, this initiative will transform Corte delle Dolomiti—a stunning location in Borca di Cadore (Belluno)—into an open-air laboratory blending research, territory, and community.

The event features an original format: a three-kilometer itinerant conference through the former Eni Village. Commissioned by Enrico Mattei and designed by architect Edoardo Gellner between the 1950s and 60s, the site was originally a holiday retreat for Eni employees. Today, it sits at the heart of the Corte delle Dolomiti restoration and redevelopment project. Walking through this space becomes a way to rethink the future of mountain communities.

Promoted by the University of Trento and Ca’ Foscari University of Venice as part of the PNRR "Interconnected Nord-Est Innovation Ecosystem" (iNEST) project, the event brings together researchers, cultural and tourism professionals, associations, and local stakeholders. Together, they will engage in an interdisciplinary dialogue on responsible development models and territorial regeneration practices.

The walk is divided into seven thematic stops, each set in a symbolic location of the complex: from the hotel to the church (designed by Gellner and Carlo Scarpa), through sports and community spaces, into the woods, and facing the breathtaking views of Mount Pelmo and Antelao. Each stop serves as a forum for key mountain issues: contemporary cultural heritage, the balance between natural and man-made environments, sustainable tourism, community associations, sports, music, and local identity.

Participation: Free of charge, with online registration.
Recommended Attire: Comfortable, sporty clothing and footwear.

The initiative is part of the Milano Cortina 2026 Cultural Olympiad, a multidisciplinary and widespread program celebrating the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. It aims to inspire Italy by promoting Olympic values through culture, heritage, and sport.
