Sustainability Reporting After the Shift: The New Balance Between Regulatory Obligation and Corporate Choice

The Sustainability Lab of the Venice School of Management, in collaboration with BDO Italia, presents the fifth edition of its webinar series dedicated to European sustainability reporting regulations.

This series focuses on the evolution of sustainability reporting in light of its shifting regulatory framework towards a more voluntary dimension. The objective is to analyze how recent adjustments in the European landscape—specifically regarding the CSRD and the evolution of ESRS, including the "Omnibus" interventions and proposals for simplified standards—are transforming reporting from a mere compliance requirement into a strategic lever for businesses. These events are designed for professionals, consultants, entrepreneurs, and managers, as well as the academic and student community.

The first webinar addresses a fundamental question: Will sustainability remain central even in the absence of stringent mandates? The session will analyze the transition of reporting from voluntary to regulatory models, up to current simplified and proportionate approaches. It will also provide a critical reading of the European framework in transition, highlighting the tension between competitiveness and sustainability, while offering an operational perspective on corporate behavior and the growing relevance of stakeholders.
