Seminar: "If We Stuff Our Production Process, Patients Die": How Middle Managers Personalize Organizational Purpose"

October 27th, 2026 | 10:00 AM

Campus San Giobbe, Room Saraceno – Ca’ Foscari University of Venice

The Venice School of Management hosts a research seminar featuring Evgenia Lysova (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam).

While prior research predominantly focuses on top-down processes led by senior leaders, this study shifts attention to how middle managers personalize and internalize organizational purpose. Drawing on qualitative research within a multinational pharmaceutical company, the study identifies three mechanisms—proximity, priority, and urgency—through which middle managers anchor a patient-centered focus into their day-to-day work, exploring how they sustain meaningfulness while balancing purpose and economic demands.
