The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Healthcare Governance Processes

On Tuesday, December 3, 2024, the Diploma Ceremony for the Professional Master Programme in Health Economics and Management (E.MA.S) will take place during the 14th Axsis - Emas Alumni Meet at the San Domenico Hall of the Scuola Grande di San Marco in Venice.

The 14th Annual AXSIS - EMAS Meeting aims to provide a forum for discussion between graduating students and renowned experts, institutional decision-makers, academics, and stakeholders in the healthcare system. This year’s theme focuses on the transformative impact of AI on healthcare, exploring its technological, ethical, and organizational implications.

The World Health Organization (WHO) highlights that AI in healthcare has the potential to make prevention and diagnosis more efficient and accurate, optimize treatment and disease monitoring, improve access to healthcare services for underserved populations, enhance public health surveillance, and advance medical research. With the growing availability of health data and rapid advances in analytical techniques, AI can revolutionize healthcare—one of the most vital and complex sectors impacting citizens, societies, and economies worldwide. The 2024 OECD report states: “Responsible AI can accelerate efforts to make healthcare systems more resilient, sustainable, equitable, and person-centered.”

However, alongside its vast potential, there are challenges to address. Ensuring transparency, fairness, and accountability in the use of AI technologies is crucial to avoid negative societal impacts, particularly given how unprepared society may be for such rapid changes.

We will discuss all of this with the passion that defines the AXSIS Club, confident in the need for modern “think tanks” like this one to ensure we govern artificial intelligence rather than being governed by it.
