IMAGINING, WRITING, EDITING CITIZENSHIP: A DESKTOP CINEMA CREATIVE EXPLORATION

Tesa 1, Ca' Foscari Zattere

EUTOPIA Connected Community Working with University Students for Inclusion, Solidarity and Citizen Participation in the EU

A conversation and screening curated by the Visual Cultures class 2026

The students from the Visual Cultures modules at Ca’ Foscari, University of Venice, participate in the CC project WORKING WITH UNIVERSITY STUDENTS FOR INCLUSION, SOLIDARITY AND CITIZEN PARTICIPATION IN THE EU with a reflection and creative interpretation of the topics at stake. Employing the toolkit of grassroots audiovisual production, this session questions the forms of participation and inclusion offered by contemporary media. It does so with a conversation between an invited guest, Dr. Jack Pocaluyko (University of Oslo), and Prof. Miriam De Rosa (Ca’ Foscari) that will sketch the scenario of our mediascape as the territory where participation strategies take place and in particular will focus on desktop cinema as a specific genre enabling symbolic circulation as well as meaning and image production.

A screening of the audiovisual works crafted by the students will follow, so as to feed the discussion with a diverse and vivid imagery that will spark an open debate between the participants. The event will be moderated by Prof. Miriam De Rosa, with the online participation of students from the EUTOPIA CC partner Universities.

On-site participation is open to students from the EGART, PISE, and the RIC courses. Other interested students can join online: Zoom link
