What Drove Korean Economic Development?

Sala A - Ca’ Vendramin, Venezia

Changkeun Lee
Associate Professor at KDI

South Korea
From the ashes of war and destitution, Korea emerged as an economic powerhouse, demonstrating remarkable growth and transformation that stands as a testament to the nation's resilience, innovation, and strategic vision. This lecture will delve into the pivotal factors, policies, and strategies that propelled Korea from a struggling post-war nation to one of the most dynamic and advanced economies on the global stage. However, delivering a narrative is not the goal of this lecture. Instead, we aim to interpret Korea's success from a universal perspective. Professor Lee will explain how the universal drivers of economic development, as observed in global economic history, were realized in the specific context of Korea.

This conference is part of the activities of the SPIN project: IL and Korea - From European International Law to Asian One: Korean Experience, 1880s-1940s - CUP: H75F21001780005
