African diaspora, slavery, and colonial worlds: interdisciplinary perspectives
VeDPH Lab (2B06), Palazzo Malcanton Marcorà (2nd floor) and online
This seminar explores the African diaspora, slavery, and colonial worlds through an interdisciplinary perspective, bringing together approaches from history, archaeology, religious studies, and digital humanities. Focusing on both Atlantic and Mediterranean contexts, it examines the mobility of enslaved and marginalised populations, the circulation of material culture, and the role of religious and institutional frameworks in shaping colonial societies. Particular attention is given to questions of visibility and representation, investigating how subaltern actors—often silenced or fragmented in the archives—can be recovered through new methodological approaches. By combining case studies from the Canary Islands, the Iberian Atlantic, the Portuguese Atlantic, and the liminal spaces of the Mediterranean, the seminar aims to contribute to current debates on coloniality, memory, and the production of historical knowledge.
