TEXTUAL HERITAGE
Locating Textual Practices Across Heritage and the Humanities

March 25th, 2026 11.00-13.00
Aula delle Trifore, San Sebastiano, Dorsoduro 1686, Campo San Sebastiano, Venice

Join us for a roundtable between the editors, the series editor David Harvey (Aarhus University), and invited discussant Verena Meyer (Leiden University).

Join us in celebrating the launch of Textual Heritage (Berghahn Books, 2025), a groundbreaking volume exploring the variety of heritage-making practices that characterize the life and afterlife of written artifacts from around the world. The book offers a theory of “humanistic heritage studies” that brings scholarship on heritage closer to disciplines like archaeology and philology, but also translation studies and historical musicology. The editors Edoardo Gerlini (Ca’ Foscari University) and Andrea Giolai (Leiden University) will speak with the book series editor David Harvey, Associate Professor in Critical Heritage Studies at Aarhus University. Verena Meyer, a specialist in Javanese, Malay, and Arabic religious texts, Assistant Professor at Leiden University, will offer some critical reflections on the volume.

The event is open to students and scholars interested in the topic of heritage and humanities and will be streamed on Zoom: Zoom link.
