Karen L. Thornber, Harvard University

Karen L. Thornber (PhD Harvard University) is Harry Tuchman Levin Professor in Literature and Professor of East Asian Languages and Civilizations at Harvard University. Professor Thornber has served as Chair of the Department of Comparative Literature and she is currently Co-Chair of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences Harvard 2036 Working Group. Her research covers various fields, from comparative and world literature to ecocriticism, environmental justice and gender studies. Professor Thornber research languages are, among others, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, French, and German. Her books include Ecoambiguity: Environmental Crises and East Asian Languages (2012) and Global Healing: Literature, Advocacy, Care (2020).
