1. Please provide a brief outline of your training and scientific activity.
I work on second language acquisition and bilingualism from a formal linguistics perspective. I have work on the acquisition morphosyntactic and semantic linguistic properties such as relative clauses, auxiliary selection, clitics, gender, existential sentences, etc in different populations (heritage speakers, L2 learners, bilinguals) and in different languages (mostly Spanish, Catalan, and Italian). I obtained my MA and PhD at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, and I worked as an Assistant and Associate Professor at the University of Western Ontario (Canada). I am currently a distinguished researcher ‘Beatriz Galindo’ at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona.

2. Please state your reasons for choosing Venice and the Department for your research and teaching stay.
You are one of the best Linguistics departments in Europe. Ca’Foscari  linguistics professors have produced seminal work on theoretical linguistics. It is an honor for me to be able to collaborate with researchers such as Giuliana Giusti and Anna Cardinaletti in projects that involve language acquisition and bilingualism. At the same time, I am very happy to collaborate in a department that not only teaches Spanish very well, but also Catalan. I am looking forward to work with Laura Brugè and her Spanish learners students and with Patrizio Rigobon and his Catalan learners students, as well as with the MA students.

3. Have you ever had a research collaboration with the teaching staff of Department of Linguistics and Comparative Cultural Studies in the past?
I have come to Venice to present my work in several international conferences and workshops organized by your department. That was the beginning of our contact and our ideas for potential collaborations that we hope we will carry out in the near future.
