Open admission subject to assessment of minimum requirements.
Quota reserved to non-EU students residing outside Italy: 5 seats, of which 2 is reserved for a Chinese student living in China, under the Marco Polo Project.
Admission requirements
Admission to the Master's degree programme requires possession of a degree in classes L‐1 Cultural Heritage; L-5 Philosophy, L‐10 Literature and L‐42 History, or in the corresponding degree classes of the previous degree systems or other equivalent and approved qualifications acquired abroad; students must also demonstrate adequate personal preparation.
Graduates in other degree classes will only be able to access the course if they have at least 60 credits in specific scientific disciplinary sectors as specified in the Degree Programme Regulations.
English proficiency of at least level B2 is also required.
It is compulsory to check students’ level of personal preparation; this involves achieving a minimum degree mark.

Admission with international qualification
Applicants with international qualification must have obtained a bachelor’s degree that is the result of at least 3 years of study. The preliminary evaluation of the qualification is mandatory. Procedures and deadlines are available on the dedicated online platform.
International qualification will be evaluated by the designated teaching committee after the pre-evaluation procedure carried out on the online platform.
Course overview
The Master's Degree Course, launched in agreement with the University of Padua, forms archivists and librarians, providing in-depth scientific expertise in the treatment of materials preserved in archives, libraries and documentation centres, historical or contemporary, public or private, as well as specific knowledge for the articulated management of such institutions.
The course consists of a single programme with three modules for training archivists, librarians and conservation librarians.
The study plan includes a group of lessons shared by all modules, providing wide-ranging and transversal skills in archiving, librarianship and conservation to guarantee broad basic training for all students on the various themes of transmission, conservation and treatment of archival and library materials.
The lessons are theoretical, practical and methodological, covering the methods of transmission, management, promotion and communication of archival and bibliographic information, the main IT tools, the basic knowledge in the field of Digital Humanities for archival and bibliographical materials and the specific telematic communication of the archiving and librarianship sectors.
The course will provide the skills for a managerial career in state administrations of the archival and library sector, in local authorities, in public and private conservation institutions, in public and private bodies and organisations engaged in the production, management, conservation, promotion and communication of archival and bibliographic assets.

Examination assessment and graduation
The educational activities include classroom teaching, workshops and internships, in order to acquire wide-ranging skills that can be readily transferable into the world of work.
During the whole university career, the various skills and knowledge acquired by students will be assessed through written and oral examinations.
The degree is awarded to students who have gained the number of credits established by the system and have achieved the knowledge, skills and abilities according to the qualifying training objectives and specific training objectives of the archivist, librarian and conservation librarian courses.
The final test involves drafting a degree thesis that is the original product of a personal reworking of contents consistent with the course and with the employment opportunities: it may take the form or a descriptive tool of an archival or bibliographic fund, analysis of the student’s training over time, or articulated and complex project work or analysis of the historical development of institutions, regulations and methodologies in archiving or librarianship or the history of written culture.
The thesis will be written under the guidance of one or more supervisors and discussed before a board made up of teachers from the course.
