Michael Zee is the creator of the online Instagram sensation SymmetryBreakfast which has been featured in the Guardian, Washington Post, Telegraph, and many others.  His latest book, ZaoFan: Breakfast of China (2024) crosses the enormity of breakfast across China. Zee photographed the book himself and is pioneering the use of QR codes in cooking. Scan any of the pages and be transported to the kitchens and road-side restaurants of China. Being British-Chinese, growing up helping out in his parents’ Chinese restaurants in Liverpool, and spending five years living in Shanghai, he is uniquely placed to document the huge variety of Chinese breakfast foods and to break down any barriers to Chinese cooking, making the recipes as accessible as possible. Before food writing, Zee was an assistant curator educational programming at the Victoria & Albert Museum, London and Tate Britain
ZaoFan: Breakfast of China is his third book after Cook Love Share: 100 Breakfasts Around the World (2016), and Eat Like a Local: Shanghai (2019). He lives in Milan with his husband.
