Special lecture for PhD students in Economics, open also to all professors and researchers of the Department - Ten Simple Rules to Create a Replication Package

Abstract:

In this lecture we cover why reproducibility has become central to credible and impactful economic research and how to build a replication package from the very beginning of a project. After distinguishing reproducibility from replicability, we introduce ten practical rules for making research transparent, portable, and easy for others—and for one’s future self—to reproduce: organizing data and code with computational empathy; sharing and properly citing data; documenting access restrictions and computational requirements; providing complete cleaning and analysis code; writing clear instructions in a standard README; linking every table and figure to its source code; including supporting materials; choosing appropriate licenses; and testing the package in a clean environment. The lecture will conclude by describing how journals assess reproducibility before publication and how careful documentation can prevent errors, reduce delays, and increase the reuse and impact of research.
