Agenda
Global Ramifications of the French Revolution
Aula Nuova, Santa Marta - Dorsoduro 2137, Calle Larga Santa Marta, 30123 Venezia
Guest Lecture by Prof. Matthias Middell - Leipzig University
Discussion with Prof. Rolf Petri, Prof. Antonio Trampus and the audience
The lecture engages with some of the most recent trends in French revolutionary scholarship by considering the Revolution as part of global history and therefore entangled and connected to many other places in the world – some of them already well known others so far rather neglected and forgotten. The revolution thus is not only part of the European and Atlantic history but also of the history of the Indian Ocean, the Muslim world and Sub-Saharan Africa. From such a perspective new questions can be raised concerning the causes for the revolution, its impact on other regions and the impact processes in those regions had on revolutionary France. This possibly allows to reassess the Revolution’s enduring legacy in the modern world.
