Digitizing Vietnam: Vietnamese Studies on the AI Horizon

Zoom conference

Digitizing Vietnam: Vietnamese Studies on the AI Horizon

Speaker: John Phan, Columbia University

Organizer: Trang Phan (DSAAM)

This talk will introduce the suite of digital collections, and digital & AI-powered tools available through the online platform and inter-institutional hub known as Digitizing Vietnam. I will provide a tour of the four major wings of Digitizing Vietnam resources: Collections, Research, Pedagogy, and Outreach. We will survey how to navigate the major types of digital collections available through DVN, explore “Research Hubs” designed to combine curated collections with DH & AI tools innovated specifically for their analysis, examine the pedagogical library and sandbox designed to promote the teaching of Vietnam at the higher level, and also explore DVN’s outreach portal, which seeks to disseminate verifiable knowledge on a diversity of topics to the general public. We will also discuss the intellectual crossroads that the development of LLM’s represents, and both the challenges and the great potential of integrating LLM’s into higher critical analysis and research.
