Advanced Courses a.y. 2023/2024

About Advanced Courses

Advanced Courses are designed to deepen students’ understanding of topics deemed particularly significant and relevant to disseminate scientific knowledge, thus improving the skills acquired with the academic curriculum. The Courses consist of two or three modules of 6 CFU/ECTS each, for a total of 12 or 18 CFU/ECTS.

By passing all the exams, you will obtain a certificate of the course you have completed and an Open Badge: a digital certificate describing the skills you have acquired. If you do not pass all the exams, you will only receive a certificate for the exams you have taken.

Contacts, FAQs

The Advanced Course in Strategy and Innovation Management focuses on topics at the frontier of research in Strategic Management Theory and Technology and Innovation Management studies.

Students are introduced to some of the main theories in Strategic Management that seek to explain, through strategic analysis, the differences in performance between organisations. The Course provides an advanced understanding of innovation dynamics and advanced analytical tools to understand the role of innovation and technology management (and related organisational levers) in explaining performance gaps between companies, non-profit organisations, public institutions, etc.

Students will acquire the fundamentals of the disciplines and the ability to critically analyse problems and issues of scientific and practical relevance in relation to the analysis of organisations' strategic decisions and the dynamics of technological innovation, both with respect to the environment outside the organisation and the processes within the organisation.

The Advanced Course offers content and knowledge that, although developed in the field of management, is also relevant for students from other fields. Both 'STEM' and 'humanities' professionals are increasingly involved in the development of projects in the public and private sectors, where expertise on how to deal with strategic and innovation choices, as well as on organisational methods aimed at ensuring that the development and introduction of new products and technologies are maximised, may be essential.

Teaching methods

Students are encouraged to develop their personal considerations on theories, practices and events through innovative and highly interactive teaching approaches. Teaching methods include traditional lectures and in-class guided discussions on theoretical papers presenting recent developments in empirical research. The Course is also intended as an introduction to experiment design. The final assessment is based on an active learning approach whereby each student is required to submit a draft of an research project, which may be presented as a thesis proposal, on a topic chosen in agreement with the professor.
