Mônica Simas è Professoressa Associata di Letteratura Portoghese e Brasiliana presso il Dipartimento di Studi Linguistici e Culturali Comparati dell'Università Ca' Foscari Venezia. Ha conseguito il titolo di Dottore (2001, con borsa di studio CNPq e CAPES PDEE) ed un Master (1997, con borsa di studio CAPES) in Lettere presso la PUC-RJ. È laureata in Lettere (Lingua Portoghese ed Inglese, 1993), anche, in Economia Aziendale presso l' Università Federal di Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ, 1990) ed in Educazione Fisica presso Claretiano (2018).
Ha insegnato presso la PUC-RJ (2001-2003) e dopo presso l'Università di Sao Paulo (USP) dal 2003 al 2021. Ha ottenuto il titolo Livre-Docente ("Libero Insegnante") presso la stessa istituzione nel 2013. Nel 2014 è stata Visiting Professor presso l'Università di Firenze dove ha partecipato a diverse attività di ricerca.
È stata una dei fondatori e coodinatrice del Laboratorio di Interlocuzioni con l'Asia (LIA - DLCV - USP). Ha coordinato anche il gruppo di ricerca "Porta Macao: letteratura, lingue e culture", certificato da Consiglio Nazionale di Ricerca (CNPq). Dal 2015 ad 2022 è stata ricercatrice presso il CNPq, dove ha ottenuto il finanziamento di ricerca sui temi "Porta Macao: costrutti fittizi e poeti di modi di vivere in contesti multiculturali" e "L'esperienza dell'orfani nella letteratura di Macao". Attualmente fa parte del Gruppo di Ricerca "Studi su letteratura, poetiche amerindie e traduzione", coordinato da Izabela Guimarães Guerra Leal (Università Federale Pará - UFPA - Brasile) con il progetto "Altre culture in lingue portoghese: cosmovisione e ancestralità".
Ha svolto ricerche post-dottorato nella letteratura di Macao sotto la supervisione del professore Yao Jing Ming (Università di Macao) presso l'Archivio Storicho di Macao nel 2015 e ricerche post-dottorato sulla poesia portoghese presso l'Università Federal Fluminense - UFF) nel 2019 sotto la supervisione della professoressa Ida Alves, coordinatrice del gruppo di ricerca "Letteratura e Paesaggio".
I suoi interessi di ricerca sono le culture portoghesi in Asia; la letteratura e la cultura di Macao, i post-colonialismi e l'orientalismo; lla interculturalità e la diversità culturale. È stata una dei fondatori della Rivista Desassossego (Rivista A - USP - Brasile), facendo parte del suo Comitato Scientifico dal 2010 alle 2021 ed è anche membro del Comitato di Redacione di Rivista Convergencia (Ufficio Reale di Lettura Portoghese di Rio de Janeiro - Real Gabinete Português de Leitura do Rio de Janeiro).
Nel 2008 ha ricevuto il premio "Talento 2007" offero dal Ministero Degli Affari Esteri Portoghese, per l'insegnamento e la diffusione della letteratura di lingua portoghese.
