Edy Fantinato is Associate Professor of Botany and Plant Ecology at the Department of Environmental Sciences, Informatics and Statistics, Ca’ Foscari University of Venice. His teaching activities focus on plant ecology, biodiversity monitoring and sustainability. He is Coordinator of the Minor in Sustainability at the Ca’ Foscari International College.

His research focuses on plant reproductive ecology and biodiversity conservation, with particular emphasis on ecological networks, ecosystem restoration and urban ecology. He is the author of numerous studies published in international peer-reviewed journals, as well as technical reports and book chapters. He has participated in several international and national research and conservation projects, including LIFE16 NAT/IT/000589 “REDUNE” and LIFE19 NAT/IT/000848 “PollinAction” as Project Assistant, COST Action CA18201 “Conserve Plants” as co-leader of WG3 “Filling the gaps in plant conservation”, and the CH JPI project ATLAS (Studying symbiotic scenarios linking Heritage assets and green areas to prepare Historic Cities to face Climate Changes) as Principal Investigator for the Ca’ Foscari unit. He is also involved in research and applied projects funded at the regional level.

He is Secretary of the Italian Society of Vegetation Science (SISV) and a member of the Italian Botanical Society (SBI), the Eurasian Dry Grassland Group (EDGG), the International Association for Vegetation Science (IAVS), and the Associazione Scienza e Beni Culturali. He serves as Associate Editor of Vegetation Ecology and Diversity and is a member of the editorial boards of Discover Conservation, Frontiers in Plant Science, Annales, Series Historia Naturalis, and Palaearctic Grasslands.
