Ancestral Hydrotechnologies as a Response to Climate, Health and Food Emergencies

International Conference
Barcelona, 16 – 17 February 2023

the International Conference on ‘Ancestral Hydrotechnologies as a Response to Climate, Health and Food Emergencies’ takes place at the Polytechnical University of Barcelona on Thursday, 16 and Friday, 17 February 2023.

Throughout history, ancient civilizations built sophisticated water systems based on the natural hydrological cycle. These ‘hydro-technologies’ provided an adaptive response to cope with issues such as water conservation, irrigation or flood and draught control - but also with biodiversity conservation and what we define today as ‘sustainable development’. Good examples of such systems, some still in use today, will be presented and discussed during this international conference, organized by the UNESCO Chair ‘Sustainability’ of the Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya in cooperation with the UNESCO Chair at Ca’ Foscari ‘Water, Heritage and Sustainable Development’ and the Global Network of Water Museums.

The conference is organised in hybrid modality.
