Within the course of study in social sciences, with specific attention on theories, methods and techniques of social work, this course aims to provide skills to programming activities in the field of social policies. In this field the programming and evaluation activities constitute a significant component of the professional skills of the contemporary social worker. In the current organization of Welfare a large number of social workers is called to plan, design, implement and evaluate professional services and interventions, in the public sector and in the third sector.
At the end of the course students must know and be able to apply some of the most important theoretical approaches, methods and techniques for programming and evaluating social policies, services and individual interventions carried out in the social service. Students will be able to make connections between theoretical knowledge and practice, also through the critical re-elaboration of experiences made during professional training.

The course aims to provide some of the most important principles, methods and techniques used in the planning and evaluation of social services and social policies.
The first part of the course is dedicated to programming activities in the field of social policies. After having clarified some foundational concepts, we study the principles on which the programming paths are based. Subsequently, lessons are dedicated to the presentation of some theoretical models.
The second part of the course is on evaluation of social interventions and policies, with particular attention to the public sector. Particular attention will be given to the ex ante evaluation, in itinere evaluation and ex post evaluation.
During the course, moments of theoretical discussion are alternated with re-elaborations of experiences and evaluation practices.

The written test consists of four open-ended questions related to the topics explained in the course. The questions will be formulated to bring out the candidate's ability to reprocess and make connections between the various topics discussed.
Covid-19 emergency: the exam includes an oral test through telematic interview. Oral test consists of three open-ended questions related to the topics explained in the course: two theoretical and one practical. The frontal lessons, realized with slides and videos, will be alternated with didactic moments characterized by the use of typical instruments of participatory teaching and in particular group work with plenary restitution.
