The course will start by discussing the role of information in public decision-making.
After examining the possible sources for data, we will identify pathways characteristic of social research, focusing in particular on the construction of tools for data collection and their use. We will offer also some relevant information for data analysis, their interpretation and reporting.

Attending students will discuss a practical research group work. For the others there will be an oral interview starting from the topics presented in the text and (optionally) of a practical research experience agreed with the teacher.
The teaching will be "from examples": we will try to start from case studies to present social theories and approaches. Students who wish to attend will be invited to participate actively in the lessons, experiencing the different methods and techniques proposed.
