HISTORY OF SPANISH CULTURE

In the course, intitled "A Spain of paper: national identity and literature", sims to offre an approach to the function of literature in the construction of Spanish national identity, for which will be studied 1) the different theories of national identity and nation, and 2) a selection of literary texts as example of the Spanish identity development from Middle Ages to 21st Century.

Al termine dell’insegnamento, gli studenti dovranno dimostrare di conoscere:
- I lineamenti dell'idea d'identità nazionale e il suo rapporto con la letteratura.
- Le diverse concetti e teorie sull'identità nazionale, con particolare approfondimento del caso di Spagna.
- Le nozioni critiche fondamentali per l’analisi di testi letterarie e storici di diverse epoche.
- Sviluppo di autonomia di giudizio nell'interpretazione dei film e capacità di rielaborazione delle fonti bibliografiche;
- Capacità di apprendimento autonomo che permettano di applicare le conoscenze acquisite ai testi di studio.

Two modalities: 1) a final essay on a topic connected to the course (in Spanish), and 2) a final oral exam.

The course consists of theoretical and practical lessons (analysis of literary texts): furthermore the explanations, students will have to prepare the readings to discuss critically among the lessons.
