The teaching is part of the activities characterizing the degree course of "Linguistic and cultural mediation" and has a dual purpose: on the one hand it is proposed to introduce students to the study of Hispanic American literature and, on the other, the course intends to provide students with methodological tools in the linguistic-literary and translatological field, which can be used in the translation of both Hispanic American texts and other literatures. Objectives of the course are: to develop a capacity of analysis on literary language and to provide basic methodological tools for literary translation. Particular attention is given to the characteristics and main themes of Hispanic American productions of the twentieth century and to the semantic, syntactical and symbolic aspects of the texts examined. The achievement of these objectives allows the student to have the basis for translating texts belonging to the Hispanic American literatures and the eventual subsequent study of the theories of translation.
The course aims to introduce students to the study of Hispanic-American literatures, addressing these literary productions from a translatological point of view.
1. In this breast, the first objective of the course is to offer students the theoretical and linguistic foundations of literary translation, as well as the methodological principles on which literary translation is based.
2. The second goal is to develop technological, terminological and documentation tools to interpret and translate literary texts so that students can organize a translating process, analyze and comment on a translation from a literary, textual and translatological point of view, as well as identify problems and propose translate solutions in texts of different typology.
3. The theoretical tools learned will be applied to selected short stories among the most important expressions of Hispanic America of the twentieth century. The texts will be analyzed first and foremost from a literary point of view in their original processing in Spanish language, and subsequently from a translatological point of view in their subsequent translation into the Italian language. In this way, we intend to emphasize the importance of approaching the translation of literary text by embracing a broader perspective than interlinguistic.
4. Developing autonomy on judging the texts and the translations that will be analyzed. The selected short stories will be translated by the students, who will then elaborate a comment that explains the translation problems of the text, as well as the solutions found and the choices made.
5. The practical component of the course, which involves the work of translating the texts in class and the elaboration of a comment, aims to enhance learning skills of the topics and tools offered during the course, as well as to develop communicative skills at written and oral levels.
Students must have an adequate level of written and oral Spanish (level B2), and they must have adequate language skills in Italian (written and oral register).
The course will be divided into three parts.
1. At first, students will be provided with general theoretical elements of literary translation by presenting a brief archeology of the main theories of literary translation.
2. In the second part of the course a brief overview of the historical figures that in the periods of the "discovery" and the "conquest" of Hispanic America, as well as during tthe XXth century, were important from the perspective of linguistic mediation and cultural and literary translation as a strategy of construction and deconstruction of identity.
3. In the third part, the reading and critical analysis of a selection of Hispanic American short stories of the twentieth century will be carried out in frontal lessons, following which students will be invited to translate the stories and to accompany the translation of a translation comment.

Theoretical knowledge of the theory of literary translation and translation into Hispanic America, as well as the practical skills of producing a text translation and comment on it, are verified through various activities proposed during the lessons, such as textual analysis and translation exercises, and through a written final profit test. In addition, knowledge and understanding skills are verified through a written final profit test.

The teaching methods used will be lectures, frontal lessons and practical work of individual and group translation.
Italian
The exam consists of a two hours written test that provides:
1. the translation from Spanish to Italian of a passage of a short story by one of the authors treated in class, and the commentary on the translation;
2. an examination of theoretical literary and translytological issues related to the course program.
