The aim of the course is to provide the specific vocabulary useful in the tourism sector confronting with texts describing typical situations of this area and to learn the pragmatic strategies tailored to the purpose of managing relations with German customers in the tourist branch.
Students will be able to read, write, understand and produce oral texts and statements of medium-high German in matter of tourism (level B2). The aim of the course is to provide students with a useful tool in a perspective of future employment in this sector.
Knowledge of German corresponding at least to A2 + / B1 levels is required. The attendance is free and the possession of certifications is not necessary prerequisite.
During the course, texts describing typical situations, in which operator in the tourism sector can be confronted with, will be read and analyzed. In addition to the lexical and terminological understanding, special attention will be devoted to ways of interacting with people of German culture in order to acquire adequate pragmatic competences in this field. Further, related grammatical and syntactical rules will be explained, and this is also at the requests expressed by the students themselves. The courses held by mother-tongue teachers are an integral part of the course and they will give special attention to the written and oral interaction production in typical tourist situations; the frequency of courses held by mother-tongue teachers strongly recommended and students who have scored at least 70 % of the frequency thereof will be given 1 extra point in the final evaluation.


For the purpose of the course, the selected text is a little book published in Greece, almost entirely in German, a free download at: http://repository.edulll.gr/edulll/retrieve/2803/862.pdf .
NB: Students are kindly requested to bring the text with them since the first lecture. Thos who have difficulty in finding the volume (needed to profitably follow the lessons in the classroom) are requested to contact the teacher on time.
For the purposes of private study, the following grammar is also recommended: H. DREYER, R. Schmitt, Die neue Gelbe, Hueber, latest edition with explanations in Italian.
Lectures in class (explanation of grammar rules and correction of homework); exercises in class; students are kindly requested to get as soon as possible the text on german for Tourism indispensable to fruitfully attend the lectures.
