The course offers students the opportunity to deepen social research issues by examining both quantitative and qualitative approaches and techniques.
The student should be able to know the main research methodologies and techniques, the issues related to this theme, how to organize a survey and analyze the data collected.
No teaching is given as a prerequisite. A minimum of knowledge of the area of interest and a strong motivation are essential to achieve the objectives of teaching.
-the philosophical frame of reference (neopositivism and the thought of Karl Popper)
-structure of quantitative research (theory-hypothesis-operationalisation of concepts-variables-collection of data-anasi-results)
-the questionnaire and issues related to the use of this tool
-formulation of questions (main techniques for good detection)
-graduated response: the stairway technique
-types of sample survey (face-to-face interview, telephone interview, self-compiled questionnaire, cross-sectional and longitudinal surveys, bibliographic research)
-official statistical sources (focus on Istat multipurpose survey)
-techniques of sampling
-quality techniques for data collection
-univariate and multivariate analysis

The examination for those attending will consist of the presentation and discussion of practical research work (by groups).
For those not attending the discussion will focus on the reference texts (it is recommended to agree with the teacher which chapters will be in particular required).
