The course aims to introduce attending students to the topical moments of musical theater.
The student will acquire basic notions on musical theater, both formal and historical; each work will be placed in the artistic context of its time.
The student should inquire about the main operatic titles, especially the seventeenth and twentieth centuries, using chronologies and he will find on the course homepage.
The forms of the romantic and post-romantic opera (1814-1918).

Musicology has ‘discovered’ with ‘some’ delay that the work, and ‘even’ the Italian, is based on well worthy of critical inquiry formal structures, after that, on the basis of the musical history of systematic area, and German in particular, had privileged instrumental music, especially from the 19th century. In this course we will discuss some titles chosen in the main areas of the genre work between 1814 and 1918, according to a periodization proposed by Carl Dahlhaus, and at the same time we will try to provide a synthetic view of the history of musical theater of that time.
