Over the last few years, the global environment has been transformed in large part by leveraging capabilities of information resources (IR). Information resources are not just back-office process enablers any more, but they can be of strategic importance to any enterprise. This course provides an introduction to strategic management of information resources.
The course aims at acquiring skills and competences for understanding, managing and leading the adoption of information systems in companies.
Upon completion of the course students will have a broader understanding of the main information systems and about their adoption process.
In terms of knowledge and understanding, the students will:
- be aware of the evolution of the IS-related competitive and strategic context of organizations;
- know the constitutive dimensions of an Information System and its implications for organizations;
Regarding the application of knowledge and understanding, the students will:
- be able to evaluate Information System and its relevance for corporate strategy
- be able to evaluate how a specific IS can be leveraged in order to contribute to an organization’s competitive advantage.
- be able to evaluate how an IS can be used to reengineer business processes.
In terms of judgement abilities, the students will:
- be able to present a set of clear and structured arguments to support the decision to acquire a specific information system.

The exam consists of a written test comprising a combination of multiple-choice questions, open-ended questions and a design exercise that requires the student to demonstrate his ability to analyze and solve a problem by means of the methodologies taught during the course.
The exam aims to verify the understanding of the theoretical concepts introduced during the course and the student's ability to apply them to real-world scenarios.
The course will be characterized by frontal lectures by the instructor and guided class discussions.
