This is one of the characterising courses within the "Near and Middle East" curriculum of the Corso di Laurea in "Lingue, Culture e Società dell'Asia e dell'Africa Mediterranea". The course contributes to the attainment of the teaching goals of the Corso di Laurea in the area of language skills, but it also invests the cultural and humanities areas.
The course aims to present the specificity of modern Armenian culture and its main developments, both in Diaspora and in the Motherland.

Knowledge and understanding::
- to know and understand the specificity of modern Armenian culture from the XVIIIth century to the present, particularly in the literary sphere
- to understand the main features of Armenian modernity, which was born in Diaspora and later daveloped in the motherland, both in the Ottoman Empire and in the Russian one.

Applying knowledge and understanding:
- to analyze the different aspects of Armenian modern culture both in their specificity and in the important intercultural dimension
- to develop a critical vision of Armenian modern culture that prepares students to appreciate its meaning.

Making judgements:
- to produce critical judgments on the historical and cultural phenomena of the course
- to analyze various types of sources (academic and leterary texts) according to a critical approach
- to improve one's capacity to develop an appropriate understanding of modern Armenian culture

Communication:
- to express and re-elaborate the contents of the program in oral form.

Lifelong learning skills:
- to know how to take notes in an effective way
- to know how to critically integrate the study of different materials (notes, slides, manuals, creative texts, academic articles)
- to be able to independently study materials and topics not covered during the lectures
- to refine one's ability to study materials in Armenian and English
The knowledge of the main phenomena of Armenian culture according to the program of the course Armenian Literature 1 (Introduction to the Armenian culture)
1) The question of the language and the emergence of two modern literary languages, eastern and western (lessons 1-2);
2) the Western influence on Armenian literature (lessons 3-4)
3) the centres of the literary creation(lessons 5-6);
4) the main authors from the beginning of the Nineteenth century to the present.
