The laboratory allows in-depth study of the course giving students the opportunity to recognize how a mineral and a rock is the result of particular thermodynamic situations and chemical concentrations and illustrates these situations through the recognition and study of both the individual minerals and their paragenesis .
Students must be able to recognize the symmetry characteristic of systems and classes through the observation of simple forms; they will be able to describe the physical and chemical properties of a mineral and to identify the laws that determine its growth. They will be able to distinguish the amorphous from the crystalline state and consequently the concept of isotropy and anisotropy. We will focus on some of the fundamental, magnetic, piezoelectric and pyroelectric properties.
In-depth knowledge will be reserved for the classification of silicates, the fundamental minerals of rocks.
The laboratory continues with the macroscopic recognition of magmatic, invasive and effusive rocks and their classification.
Classification and macroscopic description of sedimentary rocks.
Classification and macroscopic description of metamorphic rocks. Metamorphic grade, metamorphic facies and recognition of origin rock.
General Inorganic Chrmistry
The laboratory will take place with the recognition through the magnifying glasses (10x) of the minerals and their paragenesis. Characteristic paragenesis of every magmatic rock.
For sedimentary rocks beyond the use of a magnifying glass, a 10% HCl solution will be used, whose effect on carbonate rocks is the development of CO2.
The recognition of metamorphic rocks will take place through the observation of their structure, schistosity and the recognition of particular minerals, sensitive to the thermobarometric conditions characteristic of each metamorphic facies.
Morphological classification of a crystal model. Symmetry, group, system, class of belonging.
Recognition of a rock and the processes that determined it.
Lesson in laboratory. There are external excursions.
