In this case the course will be a full immersion study on the application of ecological status indicators for the determination of the environmental quality of the transitional environments through the study of biological communities (macroalgae, photoplankton, aquatic plants, dune and barena plants, benthic macrofauna, fish macrofauna). Ifact biological cxommunities are more suitable than environmental parameters for an objective assessment of the environment quality.
Ability to determine the environmental quality of any transition environment
Students must have a good knowledge of aquatic and terrestrial plant biological communities, benthic and fish macro-fauna.
Application of ecological status indices: The Macrophyte Quality Index (MaQI), multimetric phytoplankton index (MPI), the Habitat Fish BioIndicator Index I (HFBI), the M-AMBI (Multivariate Marine Biotic Index), the BITS (Benthic Index based on Taxonomic Sufficiency) and other on the o vegetation of the salt marshes and dunes
Reference texts are not necessary. The study material will be provided to the students in Power Point, Word and Excel files.
Preparation of a report on the field and laboratory activities carried out, on the indexes treated and their application to the study cases carried out in the Venice lagoon. Final presentation of the results obtained in power point.
