Contribution of the course to the overall degree programme goals
The course is part of the interdisciplinary activities of the Master’s Degree Programme in History from the Middle Ages to the Present, and of the Master's Degree Programme inter-university in Religious Studies.
The course aims at the following objectives:
- an advanced knowledge of the historical phenomena of Christianity in contemporary age, with particular regard to the history of the ecumenism and the inter-faith dialogue;
- the ability to apply historical methodology to the Christianity in contemporary age;
- the learning of skills for analysing historical sources concerning the Christianity carefully, also through the use of IT and digital tools;
- the ability to study and discuss in depth the historical phenomena related to Christianity in the contemporary age, also in a multidisciplinary context;
- the development of those learning skills that are necessary to teaching history, with particular regard to the history of ecumenism and the inter-faith dialogue.
Expected learning outcomes
The course aims at the following learning objectives:
1. Knowledge and understanding
- in-depth knowledge of the main aspects and problems of the history of Contemporary Christianity;
- advanced knowledge of the historical methodology;
- advanced knowledge of historical sources concerning the history of Christianity in Contemporary Age.
2. Application of Knowledge and Understanding
- ability to apply historical methodology to the history of Christianity;
- ability to analysing in depth historical sources concerning the history of Christianity in Contemporary Age;
- ability to carry out innovative research in the history of Christianity in Contemporary Age.
3. Judgement and Communication Skills
- capacity to communicate and debate, also with specialists, main developments and problems of the history of Contemporary Christianity.
4. Learning Skills
- development of those learning skills that are necessary to continue to undertake further study in history of Christianity in Contemporary Age in a manner that may be largely self-directed or autonomous.

Critical analysis of the history of Christianity in Contemporary Age, the research methodology and the historiography through the close examination of the history of the ecumenism the inter-faith dialogue.

The following activities will be valued:
- active partecipation to the discussions in the seminars (maximum score 1/30);
- a paper (20.000 characters, including spaces [for not attending students 30.000 characters, including spaces]) focused on one's of main subjects of lessons (maximum score 10/30 [for not attending students 20/30]);
- highlighting (in oral form) of main issues and new points raised in the research, during the final seminar (maximum score 9/30);
- oral exam on the referral texts (maximum score 10/30).
The highest score obtainable is 30/30 with honors.
