The teaching falls within the characterizing courses of the second year of the Japan curriculum of the course "Languages, Cultures and Societies of Asia and Mediterranean Africa".
Its training objectives fall within the area of ​​learning language skills.
Educational objectives of the course are: to provide basic grammar knowledge of the Japanese language; provide elementary level skills for reading, writing and speaking the Japanese language; provide knowledge and skills for the metalinguistic analysis of the Japanese language and for the translation from Japanese into Italian.
The level that students should reach at the end of the course should be around Level A2 - Elementary level of the CEFR (between level N4 and N3 of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test).
The teaching is in continuity with the teachings of "Japanese 1.1" and "Japanese 1.2" and confers the learning outcomes necessary to continue with "Japanese 2.2".
1. Knowledge and understanding
Complete knowledge of the grammatical structures of the Japanese language at elementary level
Complete knowledge of the writing system (kana and 206 kanji) and the lexicon of the Japanese language at elementary level
Know and understand the functioning of the grammatical structures of the Japanese language elementary level
Know and understand the register and communicative variations of the Japanese language at elementary level
Know and understand the essential concepts and terminology to describe the phenomena studied in a scientific way

2. Ability to apply knowledge and understanding:
Knowing how to identify the different grammatical categories and their properties
Demonstrate a general understanding of the basic grammatical structures of the Japanese language
Knowing how to describe the grammatical constructions and phenomena studied during teaching using correctly the terminology and basic tools of syntactic analysis acquired
Knowing how to interact in the communicative situations foreseen by level A2 of the CEFR
Knowing understand and produce oral and written texts in accordance with the A2 level of the CEFR
Knowing how to translate written texts of elementary level from Japanese to Italian, following the indications provided during the course
Perfect the ability to use the electronic dictionary and other tools for translation

3. Autonomy of judgment:
Being able to independently produce translation choices based on the information provided during the course
Having achieved the learning outcomes required by the teaching "Japanese Language 1".
Knowledge of the basic categories of logical analysis and of the period.
Basic notions of grammar; written comprehension (exercises conducted on a series of selected texts); practice of translation from Japanese into Italian (30 hours: Takuya Kojima);

Attendance, although not compulsory, is strongly recommended.
No additional reading is required for non-attending students.

The "Japanese Language 2" course is divided into two semesters.

The acquisition of the expected learning outcomes will be verified in the following ways.

At the end of the first semester there will be an intermediate test (Japanese language 2.1) carried out on the computer consisting of:
1. writing
test 2. grammar test.
The test does not give a numerical mark, but only a judgment of "suitability", necessary to be able to take the test of the second semester.

At the end of the second semester, a final exam (Japanese 2.2) will take place consisting of:
1. a written test of kanji (15 questions for writing and 15 for reading) and grammar (18 entries of correct grammatical forms; 8 multiple choice questions; 2 sentences of Italian-Japanese translation) without the aid of the dictionary - 35 min ;
2. a written Japanese-Italian translation with the help of the dictionary - 90 min;
3. an oral test of: reading comprehension, questions in Italian on the grammar examined during the course, conversation and role play.
The final mark will be determined by the average of the marks out of 30 obtained in each of the three tests.

The 18 credits associated with teaching will be obtained after passing the intermediate test and the final exam.
The qualification obtained in part I (intermediate) will be valid until the passing of part II (final) by and no later than the first exam in January of the following year.
In case of failure to pass part II at the first session of January, the student will have to resume the exam of the first part and can do so from the second session of January.
