Better knowledge and understanding of classical chinese language and of the confucian thought by analysis of selected passages from the Lunyu and other related sources.
A good command of Classical Chinese is absolutely required for participation in this course.
Translation and analysis of passages from Confucius' Analects (Lunyu) and later sources. The texts will be supplied during the lessons.

Other essays and works related to the subject will be suggested during the lessons.

During the oral exam, the student will be requested to briefly expound one of the subjects dealt with during the course, and to answer to possible related questions; soon after he/she will have to read at first sight, translate and possibly comment on some of the passages critically analyzed during the lessons.
The course will consist of fifteen lectures.
