The lab aims to provide some methodological tools for writing and reviewing an academic paper.
Students are expected to write and to referee an academic text based applying the criteria of originality, correct methodology, stylistic clearness and scientific relevance

The lab will be articulated into two lectures (18th and 28th of February, 2.30-5.00 pm).
During the first lecture Omar Del Nonno and Francesca Bacco, under Francesca Masi and Maria Lusiani’s supervision, will provide some guidelines on the academic writing.
The following topics will be addressed:
The process o f submission of a scientific paper
Review and evaluation criteria: originality, methodology, clarity, relevance.
Structure of an argumentative text
Through some examples, we will explain how to organize the text (introduction, treatment, conclusion ) and the peritext (abstract, keywords, title, paragraphs, notes, bibliographical references) of a paper.

ASSIGNMENT : Between the first and the second lecture students will be required to write a short text (either an abstract or an introduction or a paper) on the basis of the guidelines provided during the first lecture.
During the second lecture each submitted essay will be collectively and friendly reviewed on the basis of the criteria provided.

The final rating will be articulated as follows: 50% on the assessment of the first assignment (the production of a short text between the two lectures) and 50% on the assessment of students' active and constructing reviews of each other's papers during the second lecture.
