The Sixties and Seventies in Soviet Russia. From the underground culture to the soc-art and conceptualism
The course has as objective to focus on the birth and development of unofficial art culture in Soviet Russia from the death of Stalin until the eighties. It will analyze the emergence of underground culture and trends related to it, especially the Moscow Conceptualism and Sots-Art.
The main course of the project is to provide the basic tools for understanding the aesthetics of underground culture in USSR. The figurative culture of the this period will be seen as a whole, with particular attention to the figurative arts, architecture, photography and cinema.
Knowledge: the development of underground culture in the USSR will be examined chronologically, from the 1950s until the collapse of the system. Different media will be considered, including: plastic arts, architecture, cinema, graphic design and photography.
Communicative skills: each student will be able to clearly communicate and substantiate the contents of the course.
Critical skills: to be criticized to evaluate the historical evolution of the periodicity, but also of characteristic features.
Outcomes: the learning outcomes will be evaluated by an exam.
Pass the exam of the first module
The course module will provide a chronological overview of the emergence of unofficial art in the USSR since its origins, with a focus on its most representative artists and artworks.

It is possible to take the exam not attending, following the program of additions indicated by the teacher in the bibliographic part.
The exam includes three open questions (compulsory and with a value of 21 points), the written presentation of a topic as desired (3 points) and the recognition of three works (6 points).
If you do not answer a full compulsory question, the exam is considered insufficient.
Lectures with projected images. There will be a screening of movies. Lectures by other scholars.
A part of the course will be dedicated to the presentation of research and papers of the students, previously agreed with the professor.
