The course is characterizing for students who chooses Spanish language and literature A or B during the studies on «Lingue, civiltà e scienze del linguaggio», for every three plans (Letterario-culturale, Linguistico-filologico-glottodidattico, Politico-internazionale). Could be also chosen in the studying plan as free-choice credits or as an integrative course.
The course aims to offer and approach to Spanish modern culture (from Golden Age till 20th century) through theatre. Four dramatic plays, from different cultural times will be studied, among a selection of critical texts for the contextualization of literary works and with the support of graphic an audiovisual materials for the spectacular dimension.
Knowledge and understanding
- The principal features of culture and literature of Spanish 17-20 centuries.
- The analysis tools and it specific terminology, among the critical tradition.
- The skills to read and analyze critically text in Spanish from classical and contemporary period.
Ability to apply knowledge and skills:
- Frame the dramatic text and the dramatic spectacle in its socio-cultural and literary context.
- Apply critically the tools of text analysis and discuss other critical opinions.
Judgement ability
- Self-evaluation of comprehension capacities of Spanish language
- Critical analysis of literary texts (structure, linguistical aspects, relations with culture, etc.), autonomous judgement in the interpretation and discussion of texts.
Communicative skills
- Speaking and writing (in Spanish) ability of communication (with specialists and non-specialists), in order to provide information, express ideas, put and resolve questions about Spanish culture and literature (specially about Cervantes) in a critical way, using the suitable bibliography and terminology.
Learning
- Plan the study of the provided material with autonomy, select the bibliographical and electronic sources to increase the knowledge of Cervantes' and Spanish literature.
Knowledge of the Spanish language to read critic and literary texts.

Two modalities: 1) the active participation of the student during lessons, and 2) a final oral exam (in Spanish).
The course consists of theoretical and practical lessons (analysis of literary texts): furthermore the explanations, students will have to prepare the readings to discuss critically among the lessons.
