The course is addressed to students coming from all study areas.
The course outlines the history of Italy from 1943 to the present times. The aim is to give an insight into Italian history and politics against the backdrop of the domestic socio-economic changes and the international context. The first part of the course analyses political, cultural, and socio-economic changes from the collapse of Fascism to the end of the so-called Italian First Republic (1994), while the last sessions will discuss contemporary issues in Italian politics and society.
No prerequisites are expected for the course.
The course provides a critical analysis of the Italian political history from 1943 to the present time. With a focus on political history, the course also studies elements of social and economic history, taking into account also the international context in its intermingling with the post-war Italian political events and economic process.

Students are strongly recommended to inform the lecturer within the first two lessons whether they will take the class as attending students or not. The student is considered not attending when taking less than 9 out of 12 lessons.
For the attending students, the exam consists of two parts: a short group presentation (20/25 minutes) during the course on assigned topics (50%); final exam, which includes quizzes and essay questions on the topics studied in the lectures (50%).
The students who do not attend are equally asked to contribute to the group presentation (50%) and to take the final exam on the supplementary readings assigned (50%).
Lectures, discussion of the group presentation.
