CATALAN LANGUAGE offers communication courses for beginners and advanced students and aims to introduce students to Catalan culture and language. The course offers students the basic skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing in the Catalan language. It consists of a half-year module and annual language exercises. The general objective of the course is to develop all the linguistic skills to achieve a B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for the knowledge of languages (CEFR).
1. Knowledge and understanding
Knowing the vocabulary concerning everyday communication situations and grammar.
Linguistic knowledge of the Catalan language up to the B2 level of the CEFR.

2. Applying knowledge and understanding
Knowing how to use the right vocabulary and a correct grammar for each of the daily communicative situations (discussed during the lessons).
To understand and produce written and oral texts from a level A2 to B2 of the CEFR.

3. Making judgments
Ability to identify any grammatical and phonological errors and to be able to find the bibliographic sources suggested by the teacher (such as knowing how to use the linguistic resource online http://aplicacions.llengua.gencat.cat/llc/AppJava/index.html or different dictionaries).

4. Communication skills
know how to communicate information in Catalan, using vocabulary and syntactic structures appropriate for everyday situations.

5. Learning skills
Self-evaluation skills at the initial level compared to the acquisition of metalinguistic contents, as well as to their competence in the Catalan language.
None… except for the desire and willingness to learn a European “minorized” language spoken by more than 10 million people.
The course starts from communicative situations that allow us to introduce the grammar of the Catalan language gradually, starting from the basic expressions to ask and give personal information, passing through those to ask for directions to get to a place, up to those used to go from doctor, to shop or to communicate in a university environment.

Specific concepts of sociolinguistics: bilingualism, multilingualism, diglossia, languages contact, etc.

There will be a full language, literary and cultural immersion in Catalan. That’s why it is encouraged to use as much Catalan as possible in the classroom.

The grading of the course is based on continuous assessment; during the course, the professor will carefully and progressively track the progress in the classroom, through homework through out-of-the-classroom projects aimed to focus in spoken and written production and comprehension skills in Catalan of each student individually. The professor will schedule communication and linguistics activities based on the selected contents.

Tasks / activities:

The student must turn tasks and activities in within the established deadline.

Participation
When you're in class, speak Catalan whenever possible, even with your classmates. Any foreign language is learned by making mistakes!

Tests and projects:
There are some tests during the course, there will be two partial tests that will take place at the end of each semester and at the end of the course a final exam
The course has a strong practical and applied component. It is a communicative course implemented in reduced groups so students can acquire the optimal linguistic skills, in a more effective and customized way than with larger groups.
In our teaching philosophy, we include resources of all kinds: from the classic duo manual-grammar to more modern resources (YouTube, webseries in Catalan, self-learning web platforms, social networks, songs, audio, etc. all of them pedagogically adapted for each level).
It is a key principle of this course to integrate the use of technology, one of the soft skills of education and a feature present in daily lives of millennials, also in the University milieu.
Italian
There will be many cultural and academic activities that will allow the student to acquire sensitivity with Catalan culture and to learn many beautiful things of the Catalan universe: musical groups, influencers, books, football...
