This module belongs to the integrative training activities of the degree in Linguistic and Cultural Mediation and aims to provide students with the first methodological tools in the historical, political, social and cultural fields in relation to Spain. Objectives of the course are to develop a capacity for reflection on the events that characterize the 20th century in Spain, starting from the Disaster of '98, the Civil War, the Francoist dictatorship up to the modernization and transition to democracy happened in the '80s and' 90s. During the module we will provide the basic methodological tools for the analysis of these events with an interdisciplinary methodological approach that will combine historical-political, cultural and literary analysis. The achievement of these objectives allows the student to have the basis for an understanding of the socio-political processes and the eventual subsequent deepening of the of the study of history.
The attendance and active participation in the training activities proposed by the course as well as the individual study will reach the following objectives:
1. Knowledge and understanding:
- Knowing the development of historical events in 20th century Spain by becoming familiar with its social, political and cultural interactions.
2. Ability to apply knowledge and understanding:
- Understanding historical texts and documents in order to be able to use them correctly in the analysis of complex socio-political processes.
3. Ability to judge:
- Knowing how to argue a complex historical analysis, developing an awareness of social, political and cultural processes.
4. Communication skills:
- Knowing how to communicate the specificities of historical reflection, using appropriate terminology.
- Knowing how to interact with peers and with the tutor, in a critical and respectful way, in the presence and on the forum of the virtual classroom.
5. Learning skills:
- Knowing how to take notes and share them in a collaborative way on the online platform.
- Knowing how to critically consult the reference texts and the bibliography contained in them.
This module does not require specific prerequisites but a sufficient knowledge of the general frameworks of modern and contemporary European history acquired through compulsory school attendance.

1. War of Independence and Fernando VII (19th century)
2. Isabel II and the Restoration (19th century)
3. The Disaster of 98 and the intellectuals
4. Primo de Rivera and the Generation of '27
5. The Second Republic and polarization
6. The Civil War (1936-1939)
7. The Franquism (different periods) and its opposition
8. La Transition to democracy (1975-1982)
9. Contemporary Spain

During the lessons integrative documents and readings will be distributed; these readings are mandatory for the final examination.
The assessment of learning takes place through an oral test in which the student must demonstrate knowledge of the topics developed during the course and know how to expose them in a correct manner.
Online course that also uses educational modules available on the university e-learning platform moodle.unive.it where students will find materials for studying. The lessons will be interspersed with integrative didactic activities (seminars, workshops for reading texts and documents as well as guided viewing of films relating to the topics covered in the course).
