The course provides participants with theoretical instruments and case studies to understand and evaluate the relationship between management systems of cultural properties and the development of tourism systems.
An understanding of the main management systems of high-profile cultural properties with reference to tourism
None, although familiarity with some general notions of management would be useful
The course focuses upon the management of world heritage properties.
In particular:
(a) what is meant by "Management Plan" of a property on the WHL
(b) what the fundamental elements of a management plan are
(c) what general principles a management plan is to respect
(d) the relevance of formalised and informal aspects of property management
(e) the role of local communities, in the elaboration and implementation of a management plan
(f) the role of tourism with respect to the management of world heritage sites

The test consists in the writing of a short essay - and discussion thereof - un a theme to be agreed with the teacher.
The short essay should address the management of a world heritage site with reference to its touristic relevance.
