The course intends to address the relationship between indigenous people and the nation-states with specific reference to Latin America
The student will acquire tools enable him to read historical as well as contemporary phenomena tied to indigenous populations
Knowledge of Spanish, Portuguese and English will be preferable since the course will host international speakers
The course will provide knowledge regarding the long process that led to the construction of indigenous identities and their cultural dynamics vis-à-vis the larger national societies.
Non attending students will be invited to read two books:
1.Schmidt, Tra sciamani rivitalizzazione e turismo. Storia di un fenomeno di globalizzazione religiosa tra i Guaranì del Sud del Brasile.

2. The second book can be chosen among the following:

ATTENDING STUDENTS:
70% attendance and a power point presentation

NON ATTENDING STUDENTS:
an essay of 1500 words including both a short profile and aspects of interests in the two selected books.

Guests speakers from Latin America, documentary films, an international seminar, power point presentations produced by the students
