The aim of this course is to provide more in-depht knowledge on language phenomena with a particular focus on dynamics of the linguistic changeand on the tools of historical linguistics and indo-european linguistics
The student knows the basic linguistic terminology and understands the texts that use it.
The student knows the methods of historical linguistics and indo-european linguistics.
The student is able to use the linguistic terminology correctly, at all stages of application of the acquired knowledge.
The student will be able to recognize and describe the phenomena of linguistic change in a number of texts of indo-european languages.
The student will be able to formulate simple hypotheses, to evaluate two competing hypotheses, and to argument their judgement with empirical evidence.
The student is able to transfer their reflection capacity on a number of linguistic phenomena with appropriate terminology.
The student is able to argument critically and respectfully with the peers and with the tutor.
The student is able to consult the references in the syllabus and make simple bibliographical researches
Students must know the fundamentals of Linguistics (phonetic, phonology, morphology, sintax, semantics).
For foreign students a good knowledge of Italian is required.
Aim of the course is to provide more in-depht knowledge on historical linguistics and indo-european linguistics, with a particular focus on the linguistic change according to the traditional models but also according to the contributions of the most recent theories.

The method that will be used to assess the knowledge and skills acquired is an oral exam.
The oral test verifies: knowledge and understanding of the tools of historical linguistic analysis, using the linguistic terminology correctly; capacity of personal reflection on linguistic phenomena
Face-to-face lessons. An active student partecipation would be appreciated.
