The teaching is part of the fundamental teachings of the demo-ethno-anthropological disciplines. Lapland: culture, history, landscapes. The course addresses advanced concepts of contemporary social anthropology for the analysis of the physical and cultural components of space, both from a historical point of view and from an ecological point of view, using the key notion of landscape. Given the monographic character of the course, theoretical themes will be discussed not in abstract but applied to the context of Saami ethnography, Lapland, Northern Scandinavia.
Knowledge of history and ethnography of Lapland (cultures, linguistic ramifications, socio-political transformations). Essential notions of anthropology of space and landscape.
Good knowledge of cultural anthropology in the history of anthropology.
By carefully analyzing some of the moments and aspects of the cultural history of Lapland (Northern Scandinavia), the course intends to describe the general thematic areas outlined below. The concept of landscape. Environments and ecosystems. The complexity of the notion of “place". Practice theories and ecological-relational concepts of landscape. Narratives, place sensations, emotions and memory. Management of territorial spaces, boundaries, ethnicity and power systems. Environmental risk.
