Language learning and teaching’ is one of the characterising courses of the degree Languages, Civilisation and Language Sciences where the student can acquire knowledge and understanding of the basic principles underpinning the field of Educational Linguistics and, more specifically, the field of Foreign Language Teaching.

The aim of the course is to develop knowledge of the basic principles underlying language acquisition/learning, the teaching of foreign/second languages, highlighting also the cultural and intercultural aspects and to examine the role of Educational Linguistics by exploring the more operative concrete point of view too.

Knowledge and understanding
The student will acquire basic knowledge and understanding of: theoretical principles of language teaching, theories of language acquisition and language learning; development of language teaching; culture in the teaching of languages, curriculum e syllabus design, language learning assessment issues.

Applying knowledge and understanding
The student will be able to make connections between theory and its implications for practice by consulting and evaluating teaching materials, exercises and tasks.

Making judgements
The student will be able to interpret and evaluate the importance, for effective language learning, of various aspects dealt with on the course.

Communication skills
The student will be able to comunicate information, ideas, problems and solutions clearly and unambiguously.
