The Interdisciplinary Lab provides tools to design and manage an “ideal” project of analysis, planning, and assessment in the framework of managing the Cultural heritage resources. The laboratory will have a special focus on archaeological heritage resource management.

The Interdisciplinary laboratory will focus on a specific test-case: the archaeological park attached to the National Archaeological Museum in Altino. The students will be guided in a global management procedure by which they will identify the different issues related to the design and implementation of possible conservation practices, monitoring activities and public use/engagement of the ancient excavated Roman town. There will be a focus on conserving the mosaics of the Augesstean Domus on the Archaeological area open to the public.
The course will holistically tackle issues related to the conservation management aspects about:
- the definition of the concept of “archaeological value”, both from a scientific point of view and from the different stakeholders;
- the dynamics of the negotiation around the necessity of maintaining available and open archaeological structures;
- the aspects around the “authenticity” issues on the ri-appropriation dynamics of physical archaeological cultural heritage, considering the issues related to the CH heritage use and availability;
- the negotiation aspects around the public use of the Cultural Heritage;
- conservation issues related to the setting up of an open-air archaeological park;
- monitoring aspects related to the short, medium and long-term conservation;
- a global assessment of LCA (Lyfe Cycle Assessment) related to different possible conservation scenarios;
- a global assessment of the SLCA (Social-Life-Lyfe Cycle Assessment);
- monitoring of impacts of the cultural and technical decision implemented;
There are no specific prerequisistes.
The lab will foresseen 2 or 3 visits to the archaeological museum of Altino.
All the didactic materials will be available on Moodle.
