This course is one of the courses that characterize the degree in Business Economics, and is aimed at providing students an overview on the firm and the key issues related to its management. After an introduction on the methodological foundations and the context of modern firms, the course focuses on the analysis of the environment in which the firm operates, on the analysis of the firm’s competitive advantage, and on the firm’s business and corporate strategies.
After completing the course, students will understand which are the main business functions, which are the main characteristics of a firm’s environment, and what strategies the firm can implement to grow within this environment.
Attendance and active participation in the training activities proposed by the course (lectures, seminars from business representatives, group works) and individual study will enable students to:
- know the main models of business management, and the meaning of the main strategic alternatives for the firm;
- know how to exemplify the main theoretical concepts related to the firm, its business functions, strategies, and the environment in which it operates;
- know how to apply the main indicators for the analysis of the attractiveness of the industry in which a firm operates;
- know how to determine the most appropriate method for analyzing the functioning of different types of firms, the way they operate, and the environment in which they compete.
For any pre-requisites, students must refer to their study plan.
