The course is part of the characterizing disciplines of the curriculum: Archaeology, Master's Degree Programme in Ancient Civilization. Literature, History and Archaeology.
The course belongs to the sectors of historical disciplines of the archaeological learning, focusing on the the adeguate skills in the approach to the specific documentation (materials and sources) of Late and Graeco-Roman Egypt. By means of this work, students will verify the complex of the Late Period Egyptian culture, with a specific focus on the pharaonic topics. Achieving of these goals will contribute to the maturity of those scientific skills in the frame of the historical-archaeological context.
At the end of the course, by means of the individual commitment in the topics of the lessons, the student of Egitto Ellenistico-Romano will acquire specific skills on the culture of late pharaonic Egypt (history, archaeology, sources). These skills are part of a wider education in the archaeological activity, as stated in the description of the Master's Degree.
More in detail, the teaching contributes to the archaeological education with the specific information concerning the topic of the course, and with the acquisition of some organizing capacities in the activities of the course and, more generally, in the oral and written communication (partecipation during the lessons with talks on the signalized topics, short dissertation). The knowledge in the discipline will be integrated with the course of Culture of Ancient Egypt.
BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF PHARAONIC EGYPT: CULTURE AND HISTORY (NECESSARY); LANGUAGE (SUGGESTED).
Reading of Egyptian texts is part of the individual short dissertation, and may be replaced by a specific program (see Assessment methods).

- Ability to analyze issues related to the Late Period Egypt (in general).
- Critical approach to the subjects exposed during the lessons.
- Adeguate skill in the approach to the archaeological materials.
- Ability of analysis on the sources of the period, with the development of adeguate philological skills.
- Development of ability in team work.

During the course, the student will take part in the discussions on the subjects of the lessons, and in the reading, translation and analysis of the texts in Egyptian language.
The exam comprises: presentation of the short dissertation, discussion of the subjects and the texts exposed during the lessons.
Reading of Egyptian texts can be replaced by a second, specific dissertation.
Full lessons via Zoom (see Moodle of the course) on specific case-studies, relating to the subjects of the course. Presentation and discussion of materials and subjects, identified as subjects of the personal short dissertation.

The reading of Egyptian documents may be replaced with individual program (see “Assessment Methods”).
Graduation thesis: attendance and exams of “Egitto Tardo ed Ellenistico Romano” and “Cultura dell'antico Egittologia” with an average grade not lesser than 27/30.
